Switch Society was created because I had too many clothes in my closet, I love getting together with like-minded women, and winter months drag on and on. I had heard about clothing exchanges before, but I had never hosted one, nor did I know of any in Billings. I thought it might be a great way to bring all of these things I love together during some of the coldest months of the year here in Montana (when there's not much else going on). I knew I couldn't just invite my girlfriends because we all have different body shapes, sizes, and styles. So I created an event on Facebook, and before I knew it, there was so much interest I knew I couldn't host it at my house. So, I ended up renting a meeting space at the Hilton.
At the first swap, we collected over 505 swap items, donated 221 items to a local treatment recovery facility, and gathered 148 items to be upcycled. We had about 20 women participate. I knew it was the start of something, but how it has unfolded, and the women I have connected with is far beyond anything I could have imagined.
