Aim for Fun at Ӧx Indoor Axe Throwing
What started as a travel hobby quickly became one of Billings’ most memorable entertainment experiences. One of the owners first discovered axe throwing while traveling for work and immediately fell in love with the sport. After hearing story after story about the fun and energy of the experience, family members decided to try it themselves during a trip to Denver. The atmosphere, excitement, and community they experienced there inspired an idea. Billings needed something like this.
After about a year of searching for the right location and timing, and several intense weeks of building out the space, Ӧx Indoor Axe Throwing opened its doors in July 2019. What started as a new entertainment concept has grown into something much bigger than expected.
Today, Ӧx is both an entertainment venue and a lively community hub where people gather to challenge themselves, celebrate milestones, and enjoy each other's company. The venue holds a special place in Billings by providing an activity that fits nearly every occasion. Families, friend groups, coworkers, and competitive athletes all find something to love when they step inside.
For those who want to take things seriously, Ӧx is a member of both the World Axe Throwing League and the World Knife Throwing League. Seasonal leagues for hatchets, big axes, knives, and dual competitions bring together players from across Billings and surrounding communities, such as Red Lodge and Roundup. Many league members train year-round with hopes of competing at the world championship level.
For beginners and casual visitors, the experience remains just as welcoming. Coaches guide guests through the basics so anyone can learn to throw axes, knives, ninja stars, shovels, and even throwing cards. The goal is simple: have fun, try something new, and leave with a smile.
One of the most popular experiences is Cosmic Axe Throwing, held on the last Friday of each month. The lights dim, and the excitement ramps up as glowing targets, lasers, and black lights turn the throwing lanes into a vibrant neon scene. It has become a favorite among guests, encouraging repeat visits month after month.
Ӧx also extends its excitement beyond its walls with two mobile axe-throwing trailers that travel to festivals, weddings, birthday parties, and community events throughout the region.
More than anything, the team behind Ӧx wants every visitor to feel welcome the moment they walk through the door. Their goal is to create a place where everyone feels like family, where laughter is constant, and where people can connect through a shared experience that is equal parts challenge and celebration.
