Casual Space: A Creative Community Hub in Billings
Casual Space was created with a simple but meaningful goal. Build a place where people can gather, socialize, and feel connected. Owner Alana Sukut had always dreamed of owning her own business. When the company she previously worked for closed, she decided it was the right time to take the leap and bring her idea to life. What began as a spot to promote social connection quickly developed into a lively center for creativity, events, and locally crafted goods.
The idea stemmed from her previous role as a nutritional coach at a women’s health and fitness center. Many women she helped mentioned that their gym sessions were often the only social interactions they had all day. That realization sparked a bigger question. Why wasn’t there a dedicated space designed simply to bring people together? From that moment forward, the framework for Casual Space began to take shape.
Today, Casual Space stands out in Billings as a place that's hard to define in the best possible way. The name was deliberately chosen to allow for creativity and flexibility. The space keeps evolving with events, activities, and gatherings that inspire people to connect and have fun together.
A large part of the business is dedicated to supporting local creators. The shop features nearly 60 Montana makers and artists, providing them with an affordable space to showcase their work. The aim is to challenge the misconception that buying local has to be expensive. By keeping vendor space affordable, locally made goods stay accessible to the community.
One of the most popular experiences inside Casual Space is pottery painting. Guests of all ages enjoy choosing a piece and creating something uniquely their own. This offering is made possible through a partnership with local potter Chris of Hands Earth Craft, who helps bring the pottery painting program to life.

The atmosphere inside Casual Space is relaxed and welcoming. Vendors, instructors, and event hosts share a passion for their work, which naturally fosters an environment where people feel comfortable spending time together. The space also hosts parties, classes, and events, along with a game room that has become a favorite for visitors of all ages.
Casual Space is primarily a one-person operation. From managing vendors and events to running the register, cleaning, handling social media, and bookkeeping, almost every detail is managed by the owner. The work is nonstop, but the reward comes from seeing people connect and enjoy the space.
Some of the most memorable moments happen during simple, everyday interactions. A child proudly buying something with their own money. A group laughing together during pottery painting. Two people meeting for the first time and quickly becoming friends. Those moments reflect exactly what Casual Space was designed to be.
The support from the Billings community has been crucial to the business’s success. Word of mouth and loyal customers have helped the space keep growing. Looking forward, the focus stays on building partnerships with other local businesses and launching even more creative events and classes.
Above all, Casual Space exists to unite people. It is a place to find local talent, try new things, and build connections that might not happen elsewhere.
