Yellowstone Cellars & Winery: Where Grit Meets the Grape
1335 Holiday Circle, Billings
Tucked just far enough off the beaten path to feel like a hidden gem, Yellowstone Cellars & Winery has been swirling, sipping, and savoring its way into Billings’ heart since 2010. What started as Clint Peck’s leap from cowboy boots to cabernet has grown into Montana’s largest winery and a beloved local destination where community and craftsmanship go hand in hand.
After years spent enjoying wine across the globe and watching his brother build a winery in Washington, Clint decided it was time to pour his own story into a bottle. And pour he did into a space that quickly became known for its high-quality, European-style wines and its warm, down-to-earth atmosphere.
In 2019, Clint’s daughter Sarah and her husband Brandon Skarsten stepped in to carry the torch, bringing fresh energy to the business while holding fast to the values that made Yellowstone Cellars so special to begin with. These days, they do it all themselves. Brandon’s the winemaker and the go-to guy for anything that needs fixing. While Sarah juggles events, gardens, and flatbread magic, all while working full-time in School District 2. It’s a true family-run operation where every bottle, event, and smile comes straight from the heart.
Yellowstone Cellars stands apart in its dedication to sourcing whole-cluster grapes from the lush Yakima Valley and doing everything from crush to cork right here on-site. That means every sip you take has been carefully crafted in-house, with intention and plenty of passion. Their specialty? Dry red wines ranging from familiar favorites to rare varietals you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. And if you’re into blends that surprise your tastebuds in the best way, they’ve got a lineup that evolves year after year.
Customers can’t get enough of their new wine flights or the fan-favorite Summer Blend White, and if you're feeling snacky, their handmade flatbreads are the stuff of local legend. The Steak & Gorgonzola? Let’s just say folks don’t forget it.
Come on a weekend, and you’re in for a real treat. Yellowstone Cellars hosts free live music every Friday and Saturday night, plus lazy Sunday afternoon sets in the summer. The vibe is relaxed, a little rustic, and welcoming to all. Fancy isn’t on the menu, but genuine connections and great conversations are. You’ll find friends catching up, musicians tuning up, and first-time visitors instantly feeling like regulars.
One of the best parts of running a business like this is watching it become part of people’s lives. Some guests have toasted both their bridal and baby showers here, and now their kids are toddling around the patio. That kind of loyalty says more than a five-star review ever could.
Yellowstone Cellars doesn’t just stay in its own lane, either. They team up with Go Unite for wine dinners, host TrailNet’s annual Member Appreciation Night, and crafted a special “Padre’s Blend” to help support Family Promise of Yellowstone Valley. Community is woven into everything they do.
Their goal is simple but meaningful: to give every guest an unforgettable experience filled with friendly faces, flavorful wines, and a break from the day-to-day hustle. And while they might not be Napa, that’s exactly the point. They offer something better, Montana-made memories and a whole lot of heart.
As they approach their 15th anniversary, there’s more to come from Yellowstone Cellars. New varietals, creative blends, and the same signature warmth that’s kept folks coming back for more. If you haven’t stopped by yet, it might just be time to see what all the buzz (and the cheers) is about.
