Trouble in Tahiti, a 45-minute one-act opera, satirizes the American dream and suburban life in the 1950s, focusing on the troubled marriage of Sam and Dinah. They outwardly appear to live a comfortable life, but their growing detachment reveals a mutual feeling of being trapped and unhappy. The opera is set in 1950s suburbia, where Sam, a successful businessman, and Dinah, a frustrated housewife, struggle to communicate and find happiness in their marriage.
The Filthy Habit, is a comic opera, set in New York City in 2003, shortly after Mayor Bloomberg’s smoking ban. It tells the story of a newlywed couple, Susan and Gil, who grapple with the aftermath of Susan’s secret smoking habit, leading to misunderstandings and insecurities. The opera explores the dynamics of a relationship when secrets are kept and insecurities cloud emotions.
