Back to the 80s: Recovery Carnival Returns to Billings
Billings is throwing a party for National Recovery Month. STEP, Inc. and Alternatives, Inc. are hosting the Third Annual Recovery Carnival on Friday, September 12, from 4:00 to 7:30 PM at Tumbleweed, 505 North 24th Street. It’s free and open to everyone. Bring the family, bring your friends, bring your best 80s look.
“This is not a fundraiser, it’s a celebration,” said Tara Williamson, Executive Director of STEP, Inc. “Our goal is to make recovery visible and joyful. Whether someone is in recovery, supporting a loved one, or simply wants to be part of a caring community, we welcome them to join us.”
The theme is “Back to the 80s,” and the afternoon is built for connection. You’ll find hands-on activities, food, and plenty of ways to get involved with local recovery resources. The carnival is all about connection, bringing together families, young people, service providers, and community members to celebrate the many paths to recovery and the vital role of a supportive community.

STEP, Inc.
STEP has been part of the Billings community for more than 40 years, beginning with local parents who wanted more for their children with disabilities than institutional care. What started small has grown into an organization supporting children, adults, and families with a wide range of needs. Their programs focus on connection, empowerment, and inclusion, helping people build the skills and experiences to pursue what matters most. In 2019, STEP expanded its commitment to recovery with Renewal Recovery Residences, sober living homes that support individuals on their path to stability and independence. STEP continues to create a compassionate community where everyone has the chance to thrive.
Alternatives, Inc.
Alternatives, Inc. has served the Billings community for over four decades as a nonprofit dedicated to promoting public safety and supporting individuals involved in the justice system. Their work focuses on helping people rebuild their lives by offering alternatives to incarceration, community-based supervision, treatment, and reentry programs. With services that emphasize accountability, personal growth, and connection, Alternatives, Inc. works to reduce recidivism while fostering safer, healthier communities where individuals have the chance to succeed.
