National Day of Prayer
National Day of Prayer is when communities across the country come together in faith, and in Billings, it’s no different. On May 1, 2025, the city will join millions nationwide in lifting up prayers for their families, schools, leaders, and nation. This long-standing tradition includes three impactful events, each offering a chance to gather in unity and seek hope together.
At noon, the Courthouse Lawn will be the setting for an hour of prayer led by community leaders, each focusing on key issues affecting Billings, from education to media to family life. Local worship leaders will open the gathering with songs, setting the tone for a meaningful time of reflection and petition. Later in the evening, New Life Church will host a deeper experience, giving attendees more time for worship, corporate prayer, and intercession led by local pastors and leaders.
One of the most unique aspects of Billings’ National Day of Prayer is the Bible Reading Marathon, where members of the Christian community will take turns reading the Bible non-stop over 72 hours. This incredible commitment, held at the airport viewing parking lot, involves 176 readers from over 17 churches and two nonprofits, all coming together in a continuous outpouring of faith leading up to May 1.
For more than 15 years, Billings has participated in this national movement, growing from a simple gathering of volunteers into a citywide event that reaches over 100 churches annually. It’s an opportunity for people to come together in a world filled with uncertainty, crime, and division and find strength in faith and community. Organizers believe there is power in prayer and that when people join together with a common purpose, real change can happen.
This event is open to anyone seeking encouragement, whether they are longtime believers or simply looking for a space to find hope. The atmosphere is one of respect, purpose, and expectation. Attendees can expect heartfelt worship, meaningful prayers, and the chance to be part of something bigger than themselves. Those who have attended in past years describe leaving with a renewed sense of purpose and faith, knowing they are not alone in their desire to see their city and country thrive.
