Join the LIFTT Garden Kickoff May 15, 2026

There’s something about the start of a new growing season that invites people to slow down, step outside, and reconnect. At LIFTT, that invitation is rooted in something even deeper, a commitment to inclusion, community, and the simple act of growing together.

On May 15, Living Independently for Today & Tomorrow (LIFTT) will host its Community Garden Kickoff, marking the beginning of a new season for its ADA-accessible, all-inclusive garden in Billings. After a remarkable first year that welcomed more than 100 participants, the garden is once again opening its gates to returning members and anyone in the community who would like to take part.

The kickoff event is designed to be welcoming and accessible to all. Guests can stop by, explore the space, and take part in the experience at their own pace. Free plant starts and seeds, generously donated by San Diego Seed Company, will be available while supplies last, making it easy for anyone to get started, whether in the garden itself or at home.

The LIFTT Community Garden is unique, not just for what is grown there, but also for how it is grown. The space was intentionally designed to remove barriers and create opportunities for participation. Raised garden beds, adaptive tools, and accessible pathways allow individuals of all abilities to comfortably engage in planting, tending, and harvesting. It’s a space where everyone is invited to contribute in a way that works for them.

During its first season, the garden became more than a place to grow vegetables. It became a place where connections were formed, confidence was built, and participants discovered new ways to engage with both the outdoors and one another. For some, it offered a sense of peace and routine. For others, it created opportunities to learn, share knowledge, and build friendships.

As the new season begins, that same spirit carries forward. The garden will continue to host opportunities for hands-on learning, collaboration, and community connection throughout the months ahead. Whether it’s through informal conversations, shared workdays, or planned workshops, the space is designed to foster both independence and belonging.

The May 15 kickoff is more than just an opening day. It’s an open invitation to step into a space built on care, intention, and the belief that everyone deserves access to meaningful experiences. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or simply curious to try something new, you’ll find a place here.

As another season takes root, LIFTT continues to nurture not only plants, but people and relationships within the community. Each seed planted carries the potential for growth, and each person who steps into the garden becomes part of that story.
