Baroque Music Montana presents “Hymn of Thanksgiving: Beethoven’s Quartet Op. 132,” performed on period instruments by an internationally acclaimed string quartet. One of Beethoven’s final works, the quartet was composed after recovery from a near-fatal illness and described by Beethoven as “a prayer from a convalescent to the Deity.” Inspired by Renaissance composer Palestrina, the work uses ancient harmonies and church-like sonorities to create one of chamber music’s most profound and transcendent masterpieces, written while Beethoven was deaf.
Performers include Grammy-nominated violinist and composer Andrew McIntosh, Bozeman Symphony concertmaster and BaMM artistic director Carrie Krause, violist Maureen Murchie, and cellist Micheal Untermann of Tafelmusik Toronto. Baroque Music Montana presents over 50 concerts annually across Montana.
