Give Back in Billings
Give Back in Billings
In a city as big-hearted as Billings, giving back isn’t just something we do, it’s who we are. Whether it's dishing up meals at a shelter, helping a child succeed in school, or walking a dog waiting for its forever home, volunteers are the heartbeat of our community. And luckily for us, there’s no shortage of ways to get involved.
Even if your schedule doesn’t allow you to volunteer physically, many of these organizations rely on financial support just as much as time. A one-time donation or ongoing contribution can help keep essential services running and allow these nonprofits to continue doing life-changing work right here in our own backyard.
Below, you’ll find a wide range of local nonprofits working every day to strengthen and uplift our community. From helping families in crisis to uplifting the arts and protecting the vulnerable, each one offers a unique way to give back. But this isn’t an exhaustive list; there are so many other organizations out there doing good. The most important thing is to find a mission that speaks to your heart and jump in however you can.
Whether you have a whole afternoon or just an hour here and there, there’s a place for you in Billings’ giving community.
How to Get Started
Volunteering can feel overwhelming at first, but it doesn’t have to be. Follow these simple steps to find a role that’s right for you:
- Reflect on what matters most to you. Do you feel most fulfilled helping kids, feeding families, protecting animals, or supporting those in crisis? Start with what tugs at your heart.
- Choose a cause that aligns with your strengths or passions. Love to organize? Nonprofits always need help with events and logistics. Enjoy being social? Look for outreach or mentoring roles. Prefer behind-the-scenes work? Warehouses, clerical roles, and kitchens are always in need.
- Browse opportunities and reach out. Visit each organization’s website or give them a call. Most have a volunteer coordinator who will help you get started, answer your questions, and guide you through any necessary training or paperwork.
- Try it out—then stick with what fits. Don’t worry if your first experience isn’t a perfect match. Volunteer roles are as diverse as the people who fill them. Keep looking until you find one that feels like home.
- Make it part of your routine or just jump in when you can. You don’t have to make a huge time commitment to make a big impact. Even a couple of hours a month can change someone’s life, including your own.
