Billings Clinic Foundation: Caring for Our Community, Together

Billings Clinic Foundation began in 1982 with a simple but powerful purpose. The hospital and clinic needed a partner to advance healthcare through philanthropy, bringing people together to strengthen patient care, innovation, and community well-being. From the beginning, the Foundation has served as a bridge between generosity and meaningful impact, ensuring that every gift directly supports excellence in healthcare, education, and research at Billings Clinic.

Over the years, the Foundation has helped make many of the hospital’s signature services possible. Its support has strengthened residency programs, the SANE program for survivors of sexual assault, psychiatric services, and significant advancements such as the region’s first Level 1 Trauma Center and the first high-risk breast program serving Montana and Wyoming. These initiatives reflect the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to expanding care and uplifting programs that meet critical needs in our region.

Among the efforts they are most proud to support are the patient and employee assistance funds. These resources offer comfort and stability during life’s hardest moments by helping patients access essential care and assisting employees facing unexpected challenges. This kind of support embodies the heart of the Foundation, meeting people where they are and helping ensure no one faces hardship alone.

Many people are surprised to learn just how far-reaching that support has been. Since its inception, the Foundation has invested more than $100 million into Billings Clinic. Each dollar reflects a donor’s belief in exceptional healthcare and the Foundation’s responsibility to steward those gifts with integrity and purpose. Their philanthropic culture focuses on building meaningful relationships, nurturing awareness, and supporting new opportunities that strengthen care throughout the region.

The atmosphere within the Foundation mirrors its mission. It’s warm, educational, and grounded in hospitality. The team works closely with patients, families, donors, and clinical partners to ensure gifts are used thoughtfully and that the community feels connected to the impact they help create. Classic fundraising events have become beloved traditions, bringing people together to celebrate generosity and support programs that elevate care.

When grateful patients share their stories, those moments become reminders of why the Foundation exists. These experiences highlight the life-changing difference philanthropy can make, from helping someone through a medical crisis to supporting a new service that brings hope to families across Montana and Wyoming. And when donors choose to invest their personal resources in the mission, the Foundation considers it one of the greatest compliments they can receive.

Being part of the Billings community has shaped the Foundation from day one. Billings is a place where people show up for one another, and that spirit fuels the Foundation’s ability to grow and expand services. As they put it, the hospital and the community help each other exist. Local businesses also play a crucial role, joining the Foundation in strengthening programs and ensuring patients receive the best possible care close to home.

Looking ahead, the Foundation is excited to continue expanding services and celebrating upcoming ribbon cuttings that mark new chapters in healthcare. Their purpose remains steady: to encourage giving with compassion, steward donations responsibly, and support initiatives that elevate care for generations to come.
