Thursday, October 10th, our startling October series, UNIVERSAL MONSTER MASH, keeps up the monster madness at the historic Babcock Theatre with a special screening of George Waggner's 1941 transformative terror, THE WOLF MAN! Made in the heyday of the restrictive Hays Code, THE WOLF MAN creatively and effectively utilized stark cinematography, brooding atmosphere, creeping shadows, and a reluctant monster in order to dish out frightening images in lieu of the shocking content found in pre-code horror films. The final concoction presented to us has helped to reshape and popularize the image of the Wolf Man, inspiring viewers and creatives alike, keeping the Wolf Man alive as an icon of horror 83 years later!
Lon Chaney Jr. stars in his first truly memorable role, and arguably his best, as Larry Talbot, a man returning home to his father's estate following the death of his brother. After acquainting himself with an antique store employee and purchasing a strange silver cane, Larry is attacked and bitten by a werewolf while walking through the woods, resulting in a curse that forces him to transform into a lycanthropic beast while the moon is full! Fearing his lack of control and potential to harm others, Larry races to find an answer on how to cure his affliction!
