Every year, we partner up with our friends at MSUB to help with their International Studies and Foreign Language program by presenting a number of FREE ADMISSION films from the region they are highlighting for the year in order to help celebrate that area's culture and cinematic skill! This year, MSUB is looking at the Andean Community, a South American region consisting of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, and their third film for the year will be Peruvian director Alvaro Delgado Aparicio's phenomenal 2017 drama, RETABLO, screening at Art House Cinema and Pub Tuesday, November 18th!
A truly remarkable examination of faith, family, devotion, and purpose, RETABLO is a masterfully made coming-of-age film with a message of youthful resilience and familial bonds in a community with heavy spiritual grounding, making for an incredibly real and moving South American film experience you don't want to miss!
Noe is a respected artisan in his community, creating altarpieces and vigils for churches and homes in his area, as well as acting as the role model for his 14 year old son Segundo. When a deep secret about Noe comes to light, Segundo rebels with a vow of silence that threatens his relationship with his family.
