This year is the TENTH ANNIVERSARY of Art House Billings, and we will be celebrating all year long with a special monthly screening of a film that has had a significant impact on Art House and our community! For the month of June, we will be playing two local documentaries at Art House Cinema and Pub: Jessica Jane Hart's transformative 2016 MAKOSHIKA, and Thomas Schenk and Alette Boogman's wonderful 2022 short, THE COOKIE MAN, both screening Sunday, June 29th!
A documentation of change and uncertainty on the Montana/ North Dakota border, MAKOSHIKA sees an influx of people, development, and the consequential problems brought on by the Bakken oil boom as communities who have lived there for generations are faced with struggles that run the risk of changing their lives along with the landscape of their home.
THE COOKIE MAN is a heartfelt retrospective that tells the life story of Jan Boogman, a Dutch professional runner turned world-famous stroopwafel salesman who, after four decades of nonstop efforts, comes to the realization that it is time to retire, leaving him to ponder his next steps in life.
Celebrate a decade of ART + FILM + CULTURE with us! Don't miss this fantastic double feature crafted by Montana locals!
