Free MET Bus Passes

Who says there's no such thing as a free ride? United Way of Yellowstone County (UWYC) is proving otherwise with a $2,110 giveaway in MET bus day passes, making sure Billings residents can get where they need to go without worrying about the fare. This initiative highlights the importance of 211, a free, go-to hotline designed to help people tackle life’s challenges before they spiral into crises. By dialing 2-1-1 or visiting www.montana211.org, residents can access resources in 18 different categories, including housing, healthcare, job support, and, yes, transportation.

The bus pass giveaway is a tangible way to emphasize just how essential accessible transportation is in keeping our community moving.  As part of the initiative, UWYC is covering $2,110 worth of free MET bus day passes, available from February 11th through February 14th. Riders can add a free day pass to their MET Cards or Apps during this time, and the pass can be used whenever they need a ride. To access the passes, go through the UMO App or online and enter the following code: MET-2UAI-D5YE. For online access, visit www.billingsmt.gov/MET and call Billings MET Transit for assistance at 406-657-8218.

UWYC wants to get the word out and is encouraging the community to spread the news. They’re reaching out to local media and providing resources to help ensure this opportunity reaches as many people as possible. With Yellowstone County experiencing winter weather challenges, having access to transportation can make a world of difference.

For over 60 years, UWYC has been making a difference by mobilizing the community’s generosity and investing in local solutions. With over $47.5 million put back into Yellowstone County through grants and programs, they continue to connect people with the help they need whether it’s a warm meal, a safe home, or simply a way to get there.

This isn’t just about free rides, it’s about breaking down barriers, lifting each other up, and ensuring that no one is left stranded. If you or someone you know could use a hand, 211 is just a call away. Billings Mayor Bill Cole shares, “211 provides a resource to everyone in our community to get critical information about transportation, housing, mental health, and more... I encourage everyone to give 211 a try to help with everyday challenges, not just emergencies.” And if you spot someone who could use a ride, spread the word. Because when we help each other move forward, our whole community thrives.
