What is Wet Ink?
Wet Ink is a 24 hour play festival. The premise is simple. Friday night is a blend of improv game/open auditions. An improv team (Projectile Comedy) will play games, taking prompts from the audience, resulting in a scene from which we will derive new prompts. Also, actors will perform a 1 minute monologue or scene for their “audition” piece. This isn’t to determine an actor’s viability (everyone will be “cast”) but simply as entertainment for the audience. Writers will be announced, randomly paired with directors, given a random number of actors, some of the collected prompts, and they will have to write a one-act play overnight.
The following morning, directors and actors will come in, have a little breakfast, and get to work on their respective plays. The plays go up that night. It’s a micro dose of theatre!
Who can be a writer?
Anyone with some writing experience, confident they can write a one-act play in 12 hours or less, and who was not a writer for the previous Wet Ink Festival is eligible to be a writer for Wet Ink 2025. If more than 5 people volunteer, writers will be chosen at random.
Who can be a director?
Anyone with some theatre experience can be a director, if they were not a director for the previous Wet Ink Festival can be a director for Wet Ink 2025. If more than 5 people volunteer, directors will be chosen at random.
Who Can be an actor?
Everyone who auditions can be an actor. Be prepared with a 1 minute monologue, scene, talent, anything to entertain an audience for 1-3 minutes at most. The more actors turn up, the more the writers have to work with.
Are there other volunteer opportunities?
Yes! We will need runners to help the groups find props, costumes, run water and snacks, document the experience for social media, etc.
Why is this happening?
Theatre is a wonderful world of escape, creativity, comradery, and community. It’s also a heavy commitment of time and energy and resources. We have people who used to do plays whose lives have become too busy. We have people who have never set foot on stage but would really like to know what it’s like. Not everyone can dedicate 2 months to a show. The Wet Ink Festival allows anyone with a free weekend an opportunity to get all of those feels in a super condensed period of time. It’s hard. It’s a challenge. But it’s also the most exciting weekend of theatre you can experience.
If anyone has any questions, ask them here or message me and I’ll give you whatever answer I can make up on the fly as this as about as organized as I get. Thanks, hope to see all of you out!
