We are beyond excited to be announcing that Saturday, August 23rd, we will be playing a special 35th anniversary screening of Frank Henenlotters insane 1990 exploitation-horror-comedy masterpiece, FRANKENHOOKER, at Art House Cinema and Pub as this month's film in our LATE NIGHT series! Quite seriously unlike anything you have seen before, FRANKENHOOKER is an absurdly marvelous satire that mixes horror, comedy, and sexuality all together in a mad scientists laboratory to create an electrifying movie you'll never forget!
Make no mistake; underneath this films thin disguise of exploitation lies a fantastic allegorical story that Henenlotter made with the aim of a creating a sociopolitical commentary on the abuse, mistreatment, and neglect toward sex workers throughout 1980s New York, as well as the state's influx of drug use that helped to perpetuate the unhealthy state of the sex work industry! Patty Mullen absolutely SERVES as the titular FRANKENHOOKER in one of her only roles, and James Lorinz plays one of the most humorous characters in cult cinema! Brimming with neon-monster magic, inner-city exploitation sleaze, a totally unique charm, and metric tons of purple goop, FRANKENHOOKER is much more than a film, it is an experience! (Call me biased, but I could not be happier that I convinced Brian to play this! Take my word for it, it's great!!!)
Medical school dropout and electrician Jeffrey Franken becomes inconsolable and obsessive when his fiance Elizabeth is killed in a lawnmower accident at her father's birthday party. Secretly recovering her severed head, Jeffrey plans to bring her back to life using another woman's body and an estrogen-based blood serum. But he soon has a moral dilemma when he realizes someone will have to die for her to live, so he looks to a demographic that the city will not miss and lures the prostitutes of a pimp named Zorro to an organized hotel meetup with money and scientifically modified crack in hopes of finding the perfect body for Elizabeth!
