This year is the tenth anniversary of Art House Billings, and we are celebrating all year long by playing a special screening once a month of a film that has had a prominent impact on Art House and our community over the past 10 years! For this month's special film, we will be playing a screening of Yorgos Lanthimos's fantastic and bizarre 2015 romantic drama, THE LOBSTER, at Art House Cinema and Pub, Sunday, May 25th!
Lanthimos's first real breakthrough into the West's film world, THE LOBSTER noticeably bends the rules of any conventional rom-com, making an ironic commentary on social expectations regarding relationship and relational normalcy! Beautiful shot and acted out by an incredible cast, THE LOBSTER is a ponderous case of feeling lost in a world of love that remains one of the most unique romances of the last decade!
Taking place in a dystopian future, single people, according to the laws of The City, are taken to The Hotel, where they are obligated to find a romantic partner within 45 days, otherwise they are transformed into animals and sent into The Woods. David is one of the many people sent to The Hotel, and he struggles to make meaningful connections with the fellow guests while accompanied by his brother who was once sent to The Hotel and has since been turned into a dog.
