Novel Writing Workshop @ This House of Books

In partnership with Big Sky Writing Workshops, the Billings Bookstore Cooperative (d/b/a This House of Books) is pleased to announce a Novel Writing Workshop with local author and bookstore member-owner Carrie La Seur, whose Montana novels The Home Place (2014) and The Weight of an Infinite Sky (2018) are published by HarperCollins imprint William Morrow. The workshop starts Monday, April 1, 6 - 8 p.m., and meets for four weeks, taking a break on Easter Monday. The April 8 session will meet from 7 - 9 p.m. to accommodate an author event at the bookstore.

The workshop will include craft and practical lectures on narrative arc, character development, finding an agent, and technology for writers, plus a guest lecture on dialogue from local author and bookstore member-owner Danell Jones. Participants will have the opportunity to submit excerpts from their own works in progress for discussion and feedback.

The fee for Billings Bookstore Cooperative member-owners is $120 for the 4-week workshop and $150 for non-members. Memberships can be purchased for $100. The workshop fee includes a 15-minute one-on-one with Carrie La Seur to discuss each participant's novel project, and a cup of tea from the bookstore's tea bar each evening the workshop meets.

The registration deadline is Monday, March 25, when a deposit of at least $50 is due. Registration can be done in person at This House of Books or by phone (406-534-1133). The workshop is capped at 8 and bookstore member-owners will have priority if the workshop is oversubscribed.
