Intimate Reflections of Dora DuFran about Calamity Jane at Pictograph Cave State Park
The name Calamity Jane recalls an iconic character of the American West. Accounts of Calamity--whose real name was Martha Canary--are legion, and she has achieved mythical status in the lore of the old frontier. She lived and traveled throughout Wyoming, Montana, and the Dakotas from 1867 to 1903, during some of the West's wildest days. Join us for this fascinating presentation by Mary Jane Bradbury, a scholar and actress, who will take on the role of Dora DuFran, a Black Hills madam, business-woman and close friend of Calamity's. Ms. DuFran knows better than anyone the life of Martha Canary and Calamity Jane, and will entertain us with her historical accounts of an exciting time and place. Witness the unveiling of two quite different women, Calamity, a true legend, the other, Martha, an ordinary woman in an extraordinary time. Don't miss this glimpse into the past!
