Author Event: Marc C. Johnson @ This House of Books
Marc C. Johnson presents his book on Burton K. Wheeler for reading, discussion, and signing on Friday, May 10, 2019, starting at 5:30.
Burton K. Wheeler is among the most colorful, influential, and controversial politicians Montana ever produced (and given some of the politicians to have come out of Montana, that is quite a statement!). Author Marc Johnson now gives us the first extensive biography of this honorable maverick. It is published by the University of Oklahoma Press.
The book—Political Hell-Raiser: The Life and Times of Senator Burton K. Wheeler of Montana, describes Wheeler's 24-year Senate career, including his involvement in major New Deal-era legislation, opposition to Franklin Roosevelt’s efforts to “pack” the U.S. Supreme Court and most controversially opposition to U.S. foreign policy prior to World War II.
Marc C. Johnson has worked as a broadcast journalist and served as Chief of Staff to Idaho’s longest-serving governor, Cecil D. Andrus. He is on the board of directors for the Burton K. Wheeler Center for Public Policy and is currently working on another book on U.S. Senate history.
