Block Printing Something Special with Rachel Larson Long

aug 25, 2023 at 6:00 PM

Let’s develop skills in block printing, while depicting a place or object that has personal meaning. Bring a photo or sketch of something that brings you happy memories or associations. Maybe it’s a family heirloom, a pet, a flowering plant, a camper or cabin… We will focus on some simple shapes to create our compositions.

This is a “reduction print” process; We will use carving tools on a soft printing surface, carving out one color at a time, inking the surface, and printing a series of 3-4 prints, layering one color at a time. You can make cards, prints to frame, or even print your image on a t-shirt or apron, if you decide to bring one. (I will have my fabric inks along.)

Once you try this process, you may want to continue on your own! All basic supplies provided, but Julie has the materials in stock for future exploration. Suitable for older teens or adults, with or without printmaking experience. It’s one of my favorite art forms!
